Amaka Beauty Care is the very first Black Hair and Skin Care Company established in New Zealand as featured in Sunday Star 1993. This was borne out of personal frustration upon arrival with my family in 1990 from the U.K. There were no quality Black Hair and Skin Care Products and Information in New Zealand.
We started importing and distributing high quality Beauty Products predominantly for the needs of people of African descent. However, our products are excellent for anyone of any race with difficult to manage hair and dry skin and for those beautiful women of colour out there who are unable to find the right colour cosmetics!
The vision started in 1993 when we introduced very popular BRANDS such as DARK AND LOVELY RELAXER SYSTEM and AFRICAN KINGS AND QUEENS HAIR PRODUCTS. Later, we also acquired AGENCY for BLACK OPAL SKIN CARE & COSMETICS and AFRICAN MALE LUXURY GROOMING PRODUCTS ( visit our TESTIMONIALS page) We featured Dark and lovely Relaxer System on TV3 two years in a row showing an easy way to manage and tame coarse/frizzy hair.
We operated one of the very first and finest African Hair Salons from 1995. This venture was a launching pad for our Hair & Beauty Products distribution. It was an uphill battle for our products to be accepted in the New Zealand Beauty Industry.
However, with hard work and determination, our products have become very popular in the market place. In the past few years, some similar businesses have sprung up showing that there is a need for ethnic beauty products in New Zealand. AMAKA BEAUTY CARE HAS DEFINITELY MADE IT EASY FOR THE NEW AFRO BUSINESSES SPRINGING UP!
We are now concentrating mainly on distributing our products nationwide through Pharmacies, Beauty Shops and Beauty Salons. Our main goal is to ensure that our high quality products are readily available throughout the country.
